2016 Vision Dinner

On Monday, November 7, 2016, we gathered the team, their families, and supporters of Freedom Hoops at Grand Street Cafe in Kansas City, Mo., for the 2016 Vision Dinner. Here's some highlights from the night.

Players Amazed at the Venue
As soon as two of our players walked into Grand Street Café, they gave two huge smiles, clapped their hands, and said, “Here we go!” The beautiful venue amazed them as they looked side to side. Throughout the evening our guys had smiles as big as you could see. Later their smiles enlarged as they received their awards based on our core values of Perseverance, Accountability, Sacrifice, Savior, and Joy.

2016 Scripture Memory
All year long we memorized 10 verses based on our core values described above. Our guys nervously at first but confidently at the end shared their best five verses to the crowd of more than 80 people. Afterwards one could tell the young men felt a sense of accomplishment as they shared the verses. Many people afterwards spoke of how encouraging it was for them to see young men memorizing such applicable verses.

Michael Watson and Marvin Daniels
Michael Watson, UMKC’s all-time leading scorer, hosted the evening. His humor and energy made the evening extra special. Marvin Daniels, executive director of the Hope Center in Kansas City, spoke of the importance of having a Mentor, Model, Man, and a Mission in your life. Everyone walked away encouraged from his talk.

20 Percent of Budget Raised
The guests at the Vision Dinner were incredibly generous. God raised nearly 20% of our $50,000 budget for the 2017 ministry year. To date, we are approximately funded 60% towards our 2017 budget.

Thank you!
Thank you for praying, attending, and partnering with us as we deeply impact urban youth to fight the cycle of fatherlessness, hopelessness, and under resourcing.

Having a vision for the future is important. There are people who have no idea what having a vision can do. A person who has a vision of the future is going to work harder than anyone else. If you do no know what I am talking about, then you need to change the way that you look at life. It is important that you try to do it as much as you can, that is for sure, my man.
